At Response to Same-Sex Unions, we offer a compassionate Catholic perspective rooted in love, truth, and respect. Explore our core beliefs regarding same-sex unions and how they guide our actions within the community.

Love and truth together

Authentic love is never separated from truth. As Catholics, we are called to “speak the truth in love” (Ephesians 4:15), balancing compassion with fidelity to Church teaching. This is a cornerstone of our beliefs.

Respect and compassion for all

We reject unjust discrimination and commit to accompanying every person on their journey toward holiness (Catechism, 2358). Respect and compassion are at the heart of how we engage with individuals within our community.

Living God’s plan today

Theology of the Body invites us to live out God’s design in every relationship—friendship, family, and community—so that His love may be made visible in the world. This principle guides our understanding and support within the Church.

Key teachings

Our perspective is guided by three key principles: every person has inherent dignity, the human body reveals God’s plan, and marriage reflects Christ’s love for the Church. These underpin our beliefs and actions.

Common misconceptions

Many people misunderstand our stance. A common misconception is that the Church rejects people who identify as LGBTQ+. In reality, the Church rejects discrimination or hatred, upholding every person’s dignity while inviting all to holiness.

Compassionate action and support

Our beliefs translate into compassionate action by transforming relationships, promoting human dignity, listening first, and welcoming without exclusion. We aim to strengthen marriages, defend life, and treat every person with respect within our Sydney community.
